Missing the Knick

Ahhh...wishing those nets were still up.  Todd Snyder closed the courts and removed the nets officially on Tuesday , December 20th.  The weather has been very cooperative to play outdoors but due to that cold stretch, the ground froze and then thawed making the surface too soft to play on.  Looking forward to an early opening!

Tennis in November

Many members enjoyed the spring-like weather this past weekend. We are so lucky to enjoy tennis at the Knick through November.  Let's hope the warm weather continues into December. 

Happy Thanksgiving

Weather report looks good for the holiday weekend.  Come on down to the Knick and run off some of that Thanksgiving dinner!  

Autumn Leaves

Nature puts on a brilliant show of color with bright red leaves transforming our trees into a beautiful Fall landscape.  Come see our Fall Foliage and play some tennis while you're here, the courts are still open!

End of the year dinner

On Thursday, November 3rd, we had our Knickerbocker End of the Year dinner at Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.  It was a beautiful night with great food, dancing and fun.  Here are a few photos from the evening.

Men's "A" Doubles Finals

Champions: David Kochman and Andrew Kimball

The last tournament of the season was completed when Andrew Kimball and David Kochman defeated Hal Barton and Myron Levine in a three set match spread out over two days.  The match started Friday, October 21st at 4pm but had to be suspended due to darkness at 5-5 in the third set.  They resumed play on Sunday morning and went to a tie-breaker.  The final scores were 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (2).  Hal and Myron reached the final by defeating the top seeded team.  This was the second doubles title for the  #2 seeded team.  They won their last title in 2008.  Congratulations to both teams.

New Ladder Champion

We have a new Ladder "A" Champion.  New member Jason Garelick defeated Jun Tsuchiya after a long ladder season.
Congratulations to both players.

Men's "A" Final



Men's "A" Champion - Rich Matusow

Rich Matusow won his third consecutive title by defeating first time finalist Winn Martin in three sets. The points were fast and furious and the second set tie-breaker was an exciting finish to a great match.

"B" Ladder Finals

Congratulations to new member Christopher Swihart for defeating Carl Bengston in the newly formatted Club "B" Ladder competition.  Special thanks to new member Patricia Gould for organizing and making the new system a fun and competitive way to meet and play against new people. 

Open "B" Doubles Final

The top seeded team - Dan Nieves and Kevin McNally - defeated the #2 seeds - Don DeTora and Jeff Oppenheimer - in a dramatic 3-set match.  This was Dan and Kevin's second consecutive title in the Open "B" Doubles division.  Great job guys!

Singles' Champions

On Saturday September 24th we crowned two new champions:

In the Men's B Final, new member Stephen Estrin defeated the experienced Jimmy Devlin in a straight set, two hour match. Steve demonstrated excellent defensive skills along with a powerful topspin forehand. Jimmy made him earn his first title! 

The Women's Final paired two former champions. Jun Tsuchiya repeated as Singles champion in a straight set victory over Judy Lehman. Jun's steady play and excellent court coverage gave her the edge this year.
